Troubleshoot Lens Studio MCP

The exact steps for connecting to Lens Studio MCP vary by AI tool. Detailed walkthroughs are available for:

Verify Setup

Verify that Lens Studio is open and that the project has been properly configured for SPECS development — Setup Lens Studio and Convert a Project to SPECS.

Verify MCP Server

In Lens Studio, select AI Assistant > AI Model Context Protocol (MCP) > Configure Server.

The server popup should indicate the server is running. If it is not running, select Start Server.

Upon restarting the MCP server, close and relaunch your AI tool (Cursor, Codex, etc.) and check whether the MCP server is identified.

You can also select Copy MCP Config and paste the copied information into your AI tool, asking it to apply any necessary connection changes. Example prompt:

Connect to Lens Studio MCP using the following configuration details: [Pasted MCP Config]

Some AI tools (like Cursor) may recognize the MCP server but not enable a connection by default. Check your AI tool’s documentation for how to enable the connection.

Verify Lens Studio Plugins

It is unlikely, but possible, that your AI tool is connected to Lens Studio’s MCP server while the server does not provide sufficient access for the AI tool to work in the project.

Open preferences by selecting Lens Studio > Preferences > Plugins > Installed Plugins.

Verify that the following plugins are present and enabled:

  • AiAssistantV2
  • Agents-Docs
  • Core-ChatTools

If any plugins are missing, reinstall them from the Asset Library.

Tip: One way to check that your AI harness has access to the complete suite of tools is by asking if it has access to the “Lens Studio Execute Editor Code tool”.
